Brum's only organic bear festival goes from strength
to strength
For the fourth year running, Friends of the Earth and the Anchor Pub in Digbeth are joining forces to promote organic beer and an organic barbecue. The Organic Beer Festival will be held from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th July at the Anchor Pub in Rea Street Digbeth [1], with the organic barbecue taking place on Friday 11th between 5pm and 8pm.
The idea was launched in 2000 as the UK's first organic beer festival and proved such a huge success that it is now a well established annual event in the Anchor’s calendar. To complement the excellent range of organic beers, there will also be an organic barbecue to please both meat and non-meat eaters.
Gerry Keane of the Anchor said:
“The range of organic beers is steadily growing, so this year we have our biggest ever selection with more than 25 different varieties on offer. More producers are prepared to go to the trouble of sourcing organic ingredients to satisfy the growing demand that is out there for organic beer”.
Martin Stride of Birmingham Friends of the Earth commented:
“The popularity of the Organic Beer Festival and the barbecue just shows how more and more people are taking a greater interest in how their food and drink is produced and what’s in it. Its great to see that the festival is now a regular event in the Anchor’s calendar, and next year we hope to see the range of organic beers complemented by some local ones too”.
Editor's Notes
[1] The Anchor is Birmingham’s premier real ale pub located in Rea Street in Digbeth, (adjacent to the coach station) and has twice won Birmingham Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) pub of the year award.
There is always a wide choice of real ales while regular beer festivals and themed weekends are held throughout the year.
