Birmingham Friends of the Earth Action Briefing Dec 98/Jan 99 |
A joint prosecution by the Environment Agency (EA) and the Health and Safety Executive resulted in a fine being imposed on Tyseley Waste Disposal Ltd this Autumn.
The case relates to demolition work in the course of construction of a new incinerator facility in 1995. During that work, two radioactive sources went missing. The Head of operations for HSE in the Midlands is quoted in EA's Environment Digest as saying that 'they have put the public and employees of firms engaged in the demolition of the incinerator unnecessarily at risk.'
