Birmingham Friends of the Earth Action Briefing Dec 98/Jan 99 |
From the Government that proposes to bring you the BNRR Toll Motorway:
The Government has issued a consultation paper on Climate Change. The recognition of impacts of irresponsible consumption of resources has arrived at Whitehall. What a change: the FOE stalls on streets were ahead of the crowd. Be proud to be facing the future: Friends of the Earth - for the present, for the planet, for the future!
And now for some words from HM Government which introduce the consultation. In Gov-speak we quote: 'This consultation paper is only the start of a process. We want it to initiate a national debate on how best we can meet our targets. Clearly, we in Government have a vital role to play in delivering them, and we will be required to draw up the national programme under the Protocol. But there are also vital roles for every organisation and citizen. We are particularly keen to learn of new approaches and better assessments of costs and benefits. After this consultation is complete we will develop more concrete proposals on how the UK might meet its targets and consult on our draft programme.'
