Volunteer in the Spotlight...
Chris Williams questions one of our new volunteers, Jean-Francois (Jeff) Mouhot.
What do you do at Birmingham Friends of the Earth? How long have you been around?
Reception work on Saturdays and campaign work, including holding stalls for FoE or going to a demo, working on BFoE website, giving talks on climate change (coming soon...), and... writing for Action Briefing. I have recently moved to Birmingham, but I'm trying to catch up for when I lived in France in a small village and could not do much for the environment apart from growing organic vegetables.
What motivates you to get involved here?
A lot of things. The most important one: in a few years' time, I want to be able to look back and think that I've tried to do something to advocate a collective change in our attitude to the environment and energy.
Which campaign interests you the most and why?
Climate change/energy conservation (this covers almost every campaign, in fact). Since I was a child, I've been very critical of the way we use energy in our societies, and very concerned that it would not be sustainable for long. I also think that the combined shortage of energy and the impact of climate change will soon start to profoundly modify our societies. I want to raise awareness about that before it is too late.
Why do you like being involved here?
I like to meet people, to learn from them and to feel useful.
