Airport Noise

This has been in the news recently as a result of London campaigners winning the right to sleep without the intrusion of aircraft noise. Brett Rehling of Birmingham FOE was on the case and held a public meeting on 21st November under the flight path of Birmingham Airport. Speakers included John Stewart from HACAN and a local councillor. The Airport was present to keep tabs on the campaign's progress. See Action Briefing p1 for more info, but as far as the region is concerned the T5 Heathrow announcement will put the gaze for airport expansions firmly back on the agenda. This will not only affect those in proximity to Birmingham International but also those near Coventry, Cosford, Wolverhampton and Wellsbourne. We expect a regional air strategy study in the early part of 2002.
