Report of the
Local Groups Conference 1997

Every year Friends of the Earth hold a Local Groups Conference in which issues are discussed, reports are given of the year's work and future events are highlighted. This year's conference was in the pleasant settings of Chester, with a full timetable of workshops, lectures and discussions ranging across the present campaigns and issues.

In addition there were sessions on the design of Web sites, developing youth groups and the new National FOE campaign of Food and Biotechnology (ie. genetically engineered food). Beverly Cumblidge was voted in as Board member for the Midlands! Well done, Bev!

With the conference's motto of 'Small actions, Big Changes' we learnt what other FOE groups had achieved throughout the year. The total experience was wonderful and inspiring and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone given the opportunity who hasn't yet been!
