Awards galore for Midlands activists

At this year's local Groups' Conference the winners of the coveted 'Earth Movers' awards included some familiar faces from the Midlands.

Nigel Lee of Nottingham FOE (OK, OK, but we used to all be part of the one region in FOE's eyes) and Jean Saunders of Swindon FOE were joint winners of the award for Commitment to Friends of the Earth. Dave Green from Shrewsbury FOE won the award for Commitment to a Local Group. Dave took the opportunity to address Conference for the second year running and will no doubt be going for a hat trick in 2005!

Meanwhile, at the Sustainable Staffordshire AGM, Guy Simmons (the one-time Stafford FOE campaigner who wrote and presented West Midlands FOE's evidence to the 2002 public examination into the Regional Planning Guidance) won a large hamper of local food and a certificate of "belated recognition" for all of his contributions to sustainability issues in the county. Well done Jean, Nigel, Dave and Guy!
