GM in the region
After the success of the Wolston campaign anti GM trial site campaigns have been growing apace within the region. Warwickshire County Council passed a resolution to support the Five year Freeze in mid September. The Warwickshire GM campaigners have moved their sights on to the trial site at Long Marston. So far this has not met with great success and the farmer has planted despite wide spread opposition from local residents. The Parish Council has organised a public meeting in October to plan the next steps. Meanwhile, in Ellesmere, Shropshire, a winter trial has been placed within 3 miles of an organic farm. The farmer is extremely concerned that the proximity of the trial site could lead to him losing his organic status. A packed public meeting was addressed by Dave Green of Shrewsbury FOE and the strength of public opinion against the trial is growing.
