Friends of the Earth Birmingham Action Briefing Aug 98/Sep 98 |
It is nearly one year since John Prescott, that friend of the Green Belt, made his astonishing decision to go ahead with development at Peddimore on 7th August 1997.
A year on and no prospective client has come forward. The Peddimore decision came less than a fortnight after the BNRR decision, highlighting the development threat that the road brings with it. Indeed toll roads all over the world need traffic generating developments to allow them to work financially and do not provide the strategic role they were first promoted at achieving.
Both this and the BNRR campaigns will continue as we try and ensure more sustainable solutions are produced in an attempt to begin righting some of the wrongs of over consumption of resources.
