Friends of the Earth Birmingham Action Briefing Aug 98/Sep 98 |
It seems that all of that letter writing about poor recycling levels in Birmingham is having an effect at the Council House.
Many Councillors have remarked on the large number of your letters arriving in their mailbags, and we have great hopes that Birmingham City Council will soon start to change their recycling policy for the better.
Birmingham Friends of the Earth has gathered information on incinerators and recycling from numerous government authorities, scientists, medical researchers, environmental and technical experts from round the world, as well as the Council's own figures.
Anyway, what is Birmingham FOE going to do now? We shall let you know about that later, because we don’t wish to give the game away. In the meantime, please keep those letters flowing, because we don’t want them to think that we have gone away.
We hope that Birmingham City Council will soon be following best environmental practice; as it is elsewhere, such as in London, where a moratorium has been put on increasing incineration facilities, and proper kerbside collection schemes for recyclables are being set up (largely city-wide).
