Grass Roots Democracy

The Ward Sub-Committee

This is where your councillors discuss local affairs and make recommendations and where, as at council meetings, the public have the right to attend and listen. This might sound a little on the boring side but the agenda includes Applications for Planning Permission and for Developments and Improvements which can cover anything from your neighbour's extension to a new supermarket down the road.

There's also a spot where you can present a petition under 'Matters of Local Interest'. Councillors will debate issues such as these and they'll invite a spokesperson from a Local Authority Department to explain policies and answer questions.

'Ward Subs' are becoming more open and not just rubber stamps for Council business. You'll find out your Councillor's views and attitudes and meet new allies for your concerns.
