Recycling at Work

I work in an office in the Selly Oak area of the City, and like I imagine most offices do, we generate a lot of waste paper, as well as envelopes which we receive mail in.

Quite a while ago, I tried to ring Birmingham City Council in the hope that they would provide us with a recycling box or skip, as this is the most obvious answer to this and I would like waste to be recycled in this way.

I was then told that they do not provide services for businesses and that they wouldn’t be able to provide us with any recycling options. I am quite disappointed in this answer as Birmingham has been advertising the fact that they encourage people to recycle their waste paper etc.

I wondered if you knew about this and I also wondered if anything could be done. This seems really silly to me as surely the places that will generate the most waste paper will be companies and businesses.

I would like to make people aware of the fact that business premises seem to be refused any recycling facilities. I do hope that you would be able to help rectify this silly situation.

Miss Pat Taylor, Stirchley.

We contacted Birmingham City Council Recycling Officer John Rose who said they would arrange to install a recycling facility at Pat's office. Have you found it difficult to recycle at work? Can you help, or do you know someone who can? If so we'd like to hear from you - call Dave Clare on 0121 632 6909 or email info@birminghamfoe.org.uk.
