Shrewsbury signs on
A joint letter from Shrewsbury Friends of the Earth opposing Shrewsburys proposed North West Relief Road has been signed by Paul Marsden MP, Colin Preston (Director of Shropshire Wildlife Trust), and Martin Selby (Chair of Shropshire CPRE), as well as representatives of affected residents groups, all demanding the scheme be scrapped at once and no more public money wasted on further studies.
Apart from the devastation this road would cause, the scheme could only ever be a short term solution to Shrewsburys traffic problems and some residents would in fact face increased traffic problems if the road was built. Concern has also been expressed at the blight caused by hanging on to a scheme thats unlikely to go ahead.
The letter is being sent to the
County Councils Portfolio holder for Transport to arrive there at the
same time as the annual review of Shropshires Local Transport Plan, which
is believed to recommend further work on the options.
