Be in Wormingham: capital of vermiculture!

Ever wanted to find out who REALLY gets all the work done in your garden, keeps the soil fertile and keeps us in fruit and veg? Then it’s time to meet the worms!

Birmingham Friends of the Earth’s station at this year’s Adventure Game will highlight the importance of our wiggly friends. Focusing on raising awareness of composting, finding out where our food comes from and growing our own, young people visiting The Warehouse during the Adventure Game will be invited to meet some worms in the flesh, and then design a poster, sculpture, leaflet, display or model to promote the use of worms specifically or composting in general.

We’ll explore issues of waste minimisation and sustainability as well as food growing and the importance of a nutritional balanced diet through having fun with mud and worms!

Can you help?
This year’s Birmingham Adventure Game will run from 21st July to 22nd August 2003. We’re looking for volunteers to come along and help us run the station at The Warehouse during the day - we’ll be open Wednedsays 2-4pm and Fridays 10am-4pm throughout this period, so let us know if you’re free and we can work out the days around you.

Also if you’re connected with a school or youth group, or have children aged 10-14, make sure they get details of the Adventure Game and get involved - it’s a great way to explore the city by public transport and find out a bit more about what goes on through specially designed activities. And there will be prizes! Contact John Welsh at the Curriculum and Project Development Unit on 0121 464 1709 for more info about the Adventure Game.

One final request - if anyone has any ideas for connected activities or materials we could use to make posters, models, etc to donate, please let us know. We want to be as creative as possible!
