Roll Your Own Blackout
(With attached Barbecue...)
Midsummer's Day - Thursday 21st June 2001
As an alternative to George W. Bush's etc's energy policies and ignorance of efficiency and alternative fuels, there will be a voluntary rolling blackout on the summer solstice, June 21 at 7pm - 10pm in any time zone, thus rolling across the planet.
It's a simple protest and a symbolic act. Turn out your lights from 7pm-10pm on June 21. Unplug whatever you can unplug in your house. Have fun in the dark, hold a barbecue, play candlelit games, invent ghost stories - anything that's not electronic.
The point of this is to increase public pressure for conversion to conservation/high efficiency technologies, that ARE already on the shelf. Governments need to be informed that the public is aware that not only are these technologies necessary, but they would also prove fiscally prudent. Let them know we want global education, participation and funding in conservation, efficiency and alternative fuels - and an end to over-exploitation of the Earth's resources.
We'll be turning our lights off and holding a barbecue so if you'll be scared of the dark on your own, come and join us!! Phone for details.
