It seems some of you found Al Lone's letter appealing. Well let me tell you when I was young I had simple visions too:
S.S Capitalism was blindly bobbing along . The 'designer suits' and 'makeovers' dancing merrily, oblivious of the melting ice caps that would sink the boat.
What would be Al's answer?
Most religions have been tried. All with much sensible advice on how to live life together. All have been subverted, converted and perverted with a few fading fanatics left to fly the flags.
False gods have been replaced by a false science, economics. All conquering capitalism has brushed aside socialism and communism and is finishing off Islam with alms sponsored by Coca Cola and McDonalds. Myths have been replaced by virtual reality (in the monopoly world of Wall Street one brokerage firm took two years to realise that 350 million dollars of profit was not real). A song is not a soulful sound but a selling tool and a coffee bean is an aphrodisiac.
Al's answer is some alloneism that will make our conditioning disappear. We will all be empowered and from this babbling brook a society will be created where every living thing is precious. Darwinism will become like the dodo and survival will be for all. We will be fulfilled by the essentials of food, shelter, warmth and love........
His vision will never emerge above the salinated waters and the sharks.
Now onto more important matters.
We must congratulate the government on its environmental stance:
No new roads will be built unless they are necessary.
S.S.S.I's are sacrosanct unless required for building purposes.
For encouraging people to use public transport when available.
People are saying my column is not very funny, so here are a few jokes:

No but seriously folks, what does the environment minister do at cabinet meetings?
Make the coffee and tidy the room.
What do you call 10 or more road protesters?
A burden on the taxpayer.
What do you call 10 or more arms contracts underwritten by the Government?
A boom for the export trade.
What's the difference between a dictator and a murderer?
A murderer doesn't always get away with it.
How many environmentalists does it take to change a light bulb?
They don't have to because they use energy saving light bulbs.
