Friends of the Earth Birmingham Action Briefing Apr/May 98 |
As a result of Local Agenda 21 a series of workshops are being held in Birmingham for the public, industry, local organisations and the community. These workshops are hosted by Birmingham City Council who fulfil the role of "enablers"/"facilitators" but do not have any responsibility or authority for decision making.
In summary: these workshops provide the opportunity for you as members of the public to raise any matters you wish, on the relevant subject, in order to influence the decision makers. Ultimately you can have a real effect in helping make Birmingham a better and more sustainable place to live by attending these workshops and making your voice heard.
Mike Southcombe of Birmingham City Council's Environmental Services Department has done an excellent job so far by acting as facilitator at the three workshops to date. Unfortunately at the third workshop in March only four members of the public, including yours truly, attended. The importance and hard work by Mike merits better than this.
The next meeting has been scheduled for: 7.30 pm on Tuesday 21st April at the Council House, Victoria Square, Birmingham.
Please note this date in your diary and if at all possible try to attend if you feel passionate about any of these subjects: recycling, incineration, BNRR, motor vehicles, public transport, industrial air pollution, noise pollution, litter, land use and planning.
If you would like more information please call Paul Webb at FOE or Mike Southcombe on 0121-384 9043.
