Oswestry’s Green Lung

Advantage West Midlands is causing controversy in Oswestry as it tries to buy the town's green lung, a designated "large brownfield site" which is actually green owing to the resourceful ability of nature to reclaim previously used land.

The five acre site known as Shelf Bank has been “derelict” for 40 years according to chief executive Paul Shevlin, but CPRE, the Wildlife Trust, the Walking for Health group and others argue that it is in fact a valuable green lung.

AWM need reminding that naturally reclaimed land not only becomes attractive to nature but also to the local human population, an area of tranquillity where one can enjoy the benefits of our natural environment right on one's doorstep.
