GM-Free!!
GM-Free counties in the West Midlands are so far few
and far between but, with the South West leading the way, the debate is beginning.
The first is to be held in Shropshire on June 9th, and our GM campaigner, Clare
Oxberrow has been invited.
Herefordshire Council has had a GM-Free Policy since 2000 concerning commercial planting of GM crops, council farm tenancies and council meals. The aim is to take this further using Article 19 of the Deliberate Release Directive (Directive 2001 118/EC). GM activists in Warwickshire have had notable success in stopping GM trials and have set up a lobbying group for a GM-free county. A motion is being tabled at the County Councils meeting of 20th May.
