Balsall Heath Alert

Those who live in Balsall Heath may be interested to know about plans for the open space between Balsall Heath Road and Clevedon Road, currently used but not designated as a park. Joseph Chamberlain Colllege has plans to relocate there.

Local residents are concerned about losing their public space and not convinced by tales of consequent better sports facilites. There is an action group meeting on Wednesday 10th April, Birmingham Sports Centre, Balsall Heath Road, 7pm.
The residents have plans to keep the campaign in the media spotlight when planning applications emerge, which is expected in the next few weeks.

Apparently the college say they cannot rebuild on their current site and that their next option would be to move right out of Balsall Heath, in which case local residents would lose out on the shared sports facilities, get something nasty like a retail park rebuilt on JC College's old site, and lose the college into the bargain. Meanwhile, as the open space is designated for development there may be other threats in the future.

If people wish to find out more they can contact Balsall Heath Forum on 446 6183.
