Birmingham Friends of the Earth Newsletter Apr/May 2001

Warehouse News
By the time you read this, the Warehouse should have additional windows, in two upstairs offices, which previously had no natural light.
In early April, we welcome a new tenant to one of these rooms. The Bangladeshi Advice Bureau is placing one of its project workers here.
Carmen, who sells and hires bridal outfits, is moving into a larger office within the Warehouse.
We still have some office spaces, as well as the End Bay, available; though negotiations continue with several interested groups.
We'd like to record our thanks to Push Bikes, for their recent donation of a373, which represents half of the proceeds from their Quiz Night. Some of you will remember that Push Bikes was started as a result of some hard work by Birmingham Friends of the Earth activists many years ago, helped by the fact that we had premises for them to work from. It's good to know that they are still thriving - although, of course there is much for them to campaign on in Birmingham!
This month's plea: anyone got a spare computer screen in good condition, for use in our library? Also any recommendations for an electrician, to lay a 3-phase cable to the lift, which we'd like to get working again.
Urgently required - Receptionist volunteers. Due to extended illness of two of our regular volunteers, plus forthcoming holidays for others, we are rather short on most days right now. If you can help for a few hours, please get in touch. Expenses paid. Contact Dave Clare at the Warehouse.

Talks
During recent Monday Night Meetings we have had two excellent talks - one by Dave Clare and Carol Howarth on their travels in China, with an emphasis on aspects of sustainability and some fascinating slides; and the second by Joanna Fiedler which ingeniously took the form of an imaginary train journey through Poland looking at different environmental problems and projects around the country.
Thank you Dave, Carol and Joanna! The talks were both interesting and entertaining - and a welcome break from the usual business of our Monday Night meetings.
