Worcester Trade
Justice Network
Much effort is going into Fairtrade Fortnight (first
2 weeks of March approximately), organised by the Worcester Trade Justice Network,
(WTJN), which is made up from representatives from Oxfam, Friends of the Earth,
Traidcraft, World Development Movement, Christian Aid, CAFOD, Save the Children,
Greenpeace, City Council Agenda 21, and the Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist,
Baptist and URC churches.
All these groups are part of the national Trade Justice Movement, which aims
to address poverty in third world countries caused by unfair trade rules made
by the World Trade Organisation. In Worcester we are also keen to address the
local situation and also give a living wage to local producers.
WTJN aims to make Worcester a Fairtrade City by this time next year, a process
which involves getting a resolution through the City Council and a number of
various types of shops, and establishments stocking Fairtrade goods.
This is very exciting as with all the groups combining to work on this, then
things are really starting to happen. We need another person to help on these
issues, and if anyone would like to know more or help with any events in Fairtrade
Fortnight please contact Peter James on 07905 771174 or email peterjames123@bigfoot.com
