Tesco In Quinton?

The proposals for a Tesco’s in Quinton, previously rejected after a public review, is now being resubmitted and will be considered by the City Council’s planning committee in mid February. If it passes, it will then go to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for consideration in late February. A final conclusion should be reached roughly six weeks later if it reaches this stage.

Extra traffic is likely, meaning increased noise, pollution and accidents. Also, the undermining of local shops and the consequent effect on the local community should be considered. The previous public review questioned if a supermarket was the best way to meet demand for shops in the area. A knock on effect of building a supermarket rather than housing on a brownfield site is that greenfield land may be built on elsewhere (the site is a now disused bus garage).
