Birmingham Friends of the Earth Newsletter February 2002/March 2002
Glastonbury
28th - 30th June 2002
FREE TICKETS!!
As you may know, Birmingham FOE runs some of the lock-ups at Glastonbury Festival
and this brings us considerable funds for campaigning.
People who volunteer to help run these lock-ups get free entry to Glastonbury
as well as a better class of camping ground than the mudbath inhabited by everyone
else.
We go down a couple of days before the festival starts and stay a day afterwards
as well - getting back to Birmingham on the Monday evening. During that time
people do 3 or 4 4-hour shifts.
The lock-ups are places where people can leave their belongings for safety while
they go off and enjoy themselves. They are free to punters - the Festival pays
organisations like us to run them.
It's a more responsible way of getting into the festival for free than jumping
over the fence. Which caused the festival to be cancelled last year, losing us
our campaigns funds, and will allegedly be impossible this year anyway!
Apparently the Festival's license will be discussed on Thursday and it looks as
though this will be granted, so please phone us to book well in advance if you
are interested!
Thanks to Andy O'Callaghan who will be teaching us to organise this over the next
few months.
