Birmingham Friends of the Earth Action Briefing Feb 2000/Mar 2000 |
The money for this destructive scheme is still not on the table. However, as the Birmingham Post reported on Jan 27th, there are eight banks lining up to throw money at this reckless road. They are bunched into three groups: Dai Ichi Kangyo Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and Halifax; Abbey National, and Bank of America; and West LB, ABN-Amro and Lloyds-TSB.
Meanwhile, the Highways Agency proceed to issue compulsory purchase notices and we are told construction will start in the autumn. We can still put pressure on the banks not to invest money in the scheme. So if you have any financial dealings with any of the above banks, or if your pension scheme is run by them, please write to them asking them if they are going to back the BNRR and if so why are they using their money on such an economical white elephant. Please send us your replies. Don't delay - do it today!!!!!!!!
