Birmingham Friends of the Earth West Midlands Transport Campaign |
2nd Match 2001
West Midlands Friends of the Earth today urged CAMBBA(1) and Midland Expressway to halt all work on the Birmingham Northern Relief Road immediately. The Foot and Mouth crisis is closing down various parts of the countryside and many organisations are calling off unnecessary work(2) and Staffordshire County Council, through which part ofthe BNRR is planned to be built, has closed it footpaths. (3)
Chris Crean of West Midlands FOE said
"All work on the BNRR should stop now to avoid the possibilities of Foot and Mouth being spread by destruction workers. Many other organisations and individuals are acting responsibly at this time and we are calling on CAMBBA and MEL to take their responsibilities seriously and suspend all destruction work on the route of the road."
