Birmingham Friends of the Earth has an Energy & Climate Change action group. We want to get more energy coming from renewables: wind, sun, ground heat, or from waste, all of which are low carbon.

Other European countries are far ahead of us on·using them. In the home, 80% cuts in energy use are possible, according to a study for Friends of the Earth called 'Home Truths'·

Our Final Demand campaign is calling for a public enquiry into the power and influence of the big six energy companies that are keeping us hooked on dirty fossil fuels by refusing to invest in renewables, and calling for the Government to reconsider its decision to rush through dramatic cuts to Feed-in Tariff support for local renewable energy schemes. Add your voice to the campaign here.

Advice on cutting your·energy use·is available from the Energy Savings Trust www.energysavingtrust.org.uk

Insulating your home is one of the best ways to cut your energy bills and use less carbon. For free or cheap insulation offers click here

We try to show that 'low carbon living' is both possible and attractive.·Here, at the Warehouse, which we share with Sprocket cycle shop, The Warehouse vegetarian cafe and the One Earth shop (Birmingham's only vegan shop), our water is heated by solar panels, we have a biomass boiler to heat the radiators and provide hot water, we have insulated the reception area to a very high standard and have plans to transform the building into a example of how to refurbish a whole building to make it low carbon and sustainable.

Plenty·more information on low carbon living is available at Friends·of the Earth.
